Bogdanov’s Tektology was translated into German and appeared in two volumes (1926-1928). I have located a copy of the first volume but am still looking for the second. It would be interesting to compare the terminological choices made for some of Bogdanov’s peculiar expressions and see how they fit with the general German and Russian […]
After the initial Vpered collection appeared in July 1910 a considerable amount of time – seven months – has passed before the second collection saw the light of day. The delay was likely due to lack of funds.
Vpered group intended to publish a periodical (or periodicals) aimed at promoting its views on what a genuine Bolshevik tactical position and approach should be. It was registered as a literary group but, it seems fair to assume, had intended to operate as a faction of RSDLP (Russian Social-Democratic Labor Party). I think it’s […]
Vpered group registered as a literary group in 1910 and proceeded to publish three newspapers/journals during its existence from 1910 to 1917 when it officially announced its merger with mezhraiontsy [межрайонцы] in a newspaper called… Vpered. One of the earlier attempts at a complete bibliography of Bogdanov’s works, not as comprehensive (I think) as this one, is available in open access here. And can also be downloaded as a PDF. The bibliographic essay is short and in French (as are all the annotations) but the list is quite good and contains […]

The full history of Vpered group is yet to be written. A ‘traditional’ (Leninist) account is based on Lenin’s interpretation of the split between his supporters and ‘left Bolsheviks’ in the summer of 1909. One can see this interpretation in the very phraseology of Bolsheviks versus Vperedists. Soviet historiography tended to see Lenin’s struggle against […]
I’d like to recommend this essay – The Stofflichkeit of the Universe: Alexander Bogdanov and the Soviet Avant-Garde – from e-flux journal written by Maria Chehonadskih. It is an original discussion not only of the Soviet avant-grade but, most interestingly, also of Bogdanov’s empiriomonist ideas – these are made relevant to contemporary conversations and presented in […]
I have recently re-read this particular essay by Lars Lih and revisited the debate between Lars Lih and John Marot (among a few other things) – so I wanted to post a link to this text. Enjoy! In the essay presented below, I describe a consensus view shared among a variety of revolutionary Social Democrats […]
